Hi guys,

Hope you’re well and you’ll forgive this stupid question. So I’m lucky enough to shorly inherit an Apple Watch Series 2 GPS for next to nothing, but I’ve never followed the product so I’m not... gee, how to put this without looking like a doughnut. I’m not really sure what it does.

Would you be happy to give me some feedback on what you feel are the best features of your Apple Watch, how you personally use it and what you find is most beneficial due to its form factor? I understand there’s some iOS integration with texts and stuff but as I’ve never seen or used one I’m finding it difficult to visualise the usage.

Sorry again for the dumb question, I’m just eager to try this product with both feet into the pool and I want to make sure I’m not overlooking some of its best features because of my ignorance about the product.

Thank you so much and best wishes. :)

Tells time
Activity tracker
GPS directions when walking around on watch rather than holding phone
GPS for jogging
Messages and alerts on wrist
Siri (when it works)
Alarm is great as it wakes you up gently, unlike an actual alarm (I sleep with mine).

Thank you so much! GPS seems very helpful. IIRC it’s a digital SIM? Can it merge with my existing data plan on my phone or do I need a separate contract?

One of my favorite features is with maps.
Sometimes I miss the commands but with the haptic feature for upcoming alerts it catches my attention

GPS version needs your phone nearby and uses phones data. LTE version of watch needs a separate contract linked to your phone number.

Yeah this is quite useful.

Lift the Watch and say “Hey Siri, what can you do?” And you’ll get a list of things Siri can help you with.

In general the Watch does a lot that you would do with your iPhone but it is more convenient because it is on your wrist.

When you get a text it shows up on the Watch. You can glance at it and decide to respond now or later. You can set timers and alarms to remind you about things to do. I keep the current temperature displayed. With a quick glance I can see if I need a sweater to walk the dog. If I’m packing for a trip i can ask Siri about the weather at the destination.

Once you get it you can start trying these and see which suit you.

If you’re inheriting a series 2 like you said, there is no data plan or SIM since it’s not a cellular version. You must have your iPhone nearby and tethered or if you don’t have you phone nearby it can still do many things if on a known WiFi network.

Any data the phone uses comes directly from your phone and thus would be already part of your current phone plan.
