Even though I won't be getting one, as I've only had this under a year (iMac), I can't wait to see the new iMac (hopefully tomorrow)...

In my opinion is the best and most important product Apple release, in regard to industrial design and thinking out the box - there is always something special about them...

I feel the same!

I am so excited i feel like trading my Macbook Pro for one.

I know I am better off with my Macbook Pro, but I just want to be one of the first people to have the new iconic iMac.

What would happen if I ordered an iMac online now? Would I get the old one, or new one? Depending on the probable new iMac announcement tomorrow.

Also, what sort of discounts would you get with the old design upon the announcement of a new iMac? I could be tempted!

Anyone staying home tomorrow? I know I am. Does anyone know if Engadget or any other site is providing live coverage?

Im not sure but im guessing you'll get exactly what you ordered. it wouldn't make much sense if they would send you a new iMac when you ordered the old one. Besides its probably not even the same price.

And as for the discounts, once a new product is out, the older one is completely erased from the apple store. You could go to Best Buy or Circuit City, they'll probably discount their remaining iMacs.

There are usually several channels on irc.freenode.net that do live coverage (text only of course).

I've been waiting for well over 7 months for a new iMac to be released. If it showcased tomorrow then I will be buying one as a xmas gift to myself.

Do we really think they will be available for purchase tomorrow? Current iMacs are still shipping within 24hrs. Is it customary for there to be longer ship times before an update?

My PowerBook's is all mirrored and ready to be sold. Hello, iMac.

I work from home now and I'm finding that between that and my iPhone, I almost never find myself taking my PowerBook off the desk. My iTunes library has gone up to 120 GB+, so it's obviously on an external hard drive. Another reason not to carry the PowerBook around (I hate having to eject the drives, quit iTunes, and unplug everything every time I want to take the PowerBook to the other room).

I would probably buy an iMac at this point even if they didn't redesign it significantly, but simply bumped the specs.

By the way, here's a little calculation for those who might thinks Macs are expensive:

- 20" iMac (current model) + 4 GB iPod Nano + All-in-one printer/scanner/copier = $1,800 (with student discount)
- Selling my 15" PowerBook = -$1,000
- Rebates on the Nano and printer = -$300
- Selling the iPod (already have three, and an iPhone) = $-150

Total cost of upgrading to a new iMac = $350

Is it reasonable to assume that if the new Imacs are announced tomorrow that they will also be available in the Apple stores tomorrow? If so, I will be making a purchase!

Me too. I can't wait to see what they look like. Partly because I know it will be cool and partly because it will stop the terrible fakes from popping up every other post!
I'll hopefully have my order in on Tuesday night if the UK store is up and running with the new model. My 20" G4 is still chugging along nicely (dvd drive is a little temperamental) but I would like to move up to 24" (or larger??). Less than 24 hours to go:D

It's certainly possible. I guess it depends on how big a deal they make out of it. I can see them shipping new imacs to stores earlier that day or in the afternoon... but I can also see them not getting there until Thursday or Friday.

Hope for the former and prepare for the latter :)

I want to see an iMac with good, desktop vid card. I bet they could out do a Mac Pro with a desktop chip and solid video like the 8800.

That would be a dream come true for us that count video performance amongst purchasing decisions and don't need the workstation muscle of the Mac Pro.

I have a cluster for heavy duty stuff. :)

Hopefully tomorrows announcement will in fact be an introduction for new Imac's. If that's the case, and they're indicated that they're available tomorrow.....I'll make a call to the Apple store to confirm they have them....and they play hookie from work for the rest of the day! ;)

The only problem is that this iMac will have a much much shorter lifespan than the current one (Napa based) because a few months after the new one comes out tomorrow - then a Penryn one will come out!

That doesn't mean that it will have a shorter lifespan, that just means that won't be the newest technology forever... Who really cares, you're still getting a good computer.

Using this logic it would make sense to no never buy a new computer.

Yeah true, better than Dell (no offense to any Dell lovers) who updates their computers every time a new tech comes out... I like to have the pride of me having the 'latest' model...

Oh man I am so excited I'm about to wet my self lol.... But seriously, this is going to be awesome.

I'm very excited too! I'm hoping to own a new Imac tomorrow! I'm going from a PC, and I've thrown in the towel for PC's some time ago. Sadly I'll still be using a Windows PC at work....guess that will help me to appreciate my home system!

Wait hold on. Explain how it is better that apple does not update its products as much as Dell does. Why is that better? In what sick twisted universe is it better to be using old hardware?

This is blasphemy....this is madness....

This is macintosh.

I had to use a Dell at work all the time... then the websites the company owns was incompatible with Safari, so I convinced them to get a Mac (for testing on browsers etc) - This was prior Safari on Windows...

...now the Dell is just used for emails, testing on (with IE) and accessing the Z drive - The Dell is fast as well, it's a Pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM, the sceen looks rubbish compared to the iMac.

Mac and home, Mac in work, life is a lot less stressful for me :)
