Really having a hard time deciding

I already pre-ordered my 11" 256GB IPP, but am really debating the need for 256GB at the cost apple request for the size difference. Do we think, or is there already, support for usb-c external hard drives or wireless hard drive? I will mostly be using the iPad at school for note taking. Only reason I can think of the extra storage is video's on the road.... that's all.... All input is appreciated. Thanks

Probably no support for external/wireless drives, Apple would prefer you use iCloud Drive

It does not support a a USB-C HDD per a report from The Verge. As for wireless drives, they currently work - I use a wireless FileHub with 4TB attached drive with my iPad Pro. The drive is accessible from the associated app and via SMB connections in file manager apps like FileBrowser and File Explorer.

What’s the performance difference between a wireless drive and using iCloud or Dropbox? Do you find it’s pretty significant?

I have yet to find a wireless drive that matches a high-bandwidth WiFi connection - it can be significant. But I travel a lot to places with no or poor Internet service so I do not rely on cloud services for data access (though I have multiple account, e.g., DropBox, OneDrive, Google).
