Really no way to go straight to DP7?

I am on DP6 and I want to clean house and go direct to DP7, but it seems the only way to do so is to start with DP1 and work my way up over and over. Doesn't provide for a very clutter-free under carriage for bug testing, ehh? Who knows what remnants carry over from DP to DP... very unusual for Apple not to release incremental clean installs.

They probably don't see the point in doing a clean install with the DPs. Might as well wait for the Release version, no?

It's a develop preview. It's kind of expected you're going release to release.

I'm sure for the final they'll have one release and won't require you to upgrade from DP1 to GM

There are full installers for DP1, DP5 and DP7.

You can only redeem one for DP7 now from the mac dev centre, but can redownload DP1 and DP5 still from the purchases tab in the mac app store if you need to provided you already redeemed codes for them before.

It's not expected. When you're testing an application, having gone from DP to DP without a fresh install makes it a lot harder to determine where issues come from. Are they remnants of a previous install, or are they issues with a specific build?

Why do you think when someone asks here about a bug, people ask if they've done a fresh install or a restore? Cleaning out the closet and starting new is the only way to figure out if a bug is related to an OS or an application.

No it doesn't. If you're having an issue with the current build and if it was an issue in the previous build too, then the issue exists in the current build as well as the previous build (meaning, it wasn't fixed yet). Which means, you should submit a bug report.

Because people are used to the past where clean install was necessary. I've done updates rather than clean installs since Snow Leopard and I've really had 0 issues with the upgrades to a new OS. So I recommend going the update install route.

Additionally, each DP has been a delta updates, you only get the changes. So if a previous DP has changed some file, and the new DP has changed the same file, then you will always get the newest version.

Nope. Do you really believe that clean install is required just to debug an issue with an application or OS? Most of the time, you can just delete preference files if they become corrupted and you pretty much get the same effect as a new install. You can leave the actual debugging to Apple Engineers. A full system diagnosis (which you should include in every bug report) tells them where the issue lies and what causes it (most of the time at least).

If you have access to the developer portal, it should be possible. I have an iOS developer account, and there’s an option to get a download code specifically for DP7. I redeemed the code and installed DP7 on my rMBP. Even if you’ve already redeemed the code for a previous DP release, you should be able to get a code for the current level (DP7).

When I login it just shows the DP1 that was redeemed... need to get with my department head to see if we can get new codes, doesn't seem to make sense to have to do that though. They should simply have it as a download.

If you don't already have a code for DP5, I'm afraid it is too late to get that one now. But you can get one for DP7.

Direct downloads are not available for the full installers because they are tied to your apple id you use to redeem the code.

Direct downloads for all the delta updates DP2-DP7 are however available in apple's developer forums because they are not tied to ids.

So you could get them to update from DP1, DP2, DP3, DP4, DP5 if you want to (and then go even further to DP6 and DP7 if you want to).

But for a clean install of DP7 it would be better to just redeem a code for DP7, make a bootable USB installer using instructions in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1761645/ , boot up with the option key, erase the drive and install from there.
