Hi, i'm interested in producing a simple small 'postage stamp' sized animations.

Is it possible to insert components into an animation and move them simply and independently on each slide?
For example a small car where the wheels could be inserted and moved representing a bumpy road?.

That kind of thing????

What package do I need to do this?

You should be able to do this in Flash, it does have some very good presents that should enable you to do this easily.

What type of animation are you looking at doing? Is it 2D or 3D or a mix of both? The wheels on a car moving along a bumpy road would be easy for almost any animator as even in the most simplistic animations the image on each frame could be changed/animated.

One thing to consider is if they are "postage-stamp" sized animations, then detail will go out the window. That being said, depending on your sizes of elements, one might not even know the wheels are moving along a bumpy road.

As this sounds like it is more of an animated GIF (because of simplicity and size of the animation), you should be able to do it with Adobe AfterEffects or even just utilizing Photoshop. I only use the Adobe products, with the exception of 3D programs, so this would be the route I would take. But if you don't have any of the Adobe products - or cannot afford them, then I am sure there are other free programs out there that could help in your project. In fact iMovie would probably do what you are looking to do.

More info would be needed about the type of animation (2D/3D/Mixed), final file type, etc. to be able to help you more.

Good luck!

If the animation is going to be simple, animated gif will probably be the easiest. You can make an animated gif from Photoshop or Fireworks quite easily. If you need help making one, check out lynda.com for a bunch of tutorials.
