Really want a 2013 Mac Pro

It's really really really old, but ever since I sold my 12core 2010 customac with a 780GTX I really miss working on beast machines.

I want to get a 2013 Quad but with room to upgrade to a 12core CPU (like I did with my 2010)....

Anyone done this and do you think Apple will release a Mac Pro update in June? I really doubt it. Apple wasted that design by releasing only 1 machine with no speed bumps.

CPU can be replaced on MP6,1.
So the best deal, theoretically, would be to find secondhand 6,1 with 4 core Xeon and D700s.
Not helping, i know...

Nobody knows, but I definitely wouldn't be buying one right now with WWDC less than a month away. Unless you absolutely had no choice.

As Mango says, wait until WWDC. And worst case scenario you can hunt around for a low-core MP used and upgrade it from there.

Hopefully Apple updates, I'd love to have TB3, maybe USB-C, better GPUs and more SSD storage space.

I wanted to wait for the new Mac Pro to arrive, but couldn't. I was tired of all of the PC clutter and parts.

I bought the 4 core, d700 with 16 gig ram from b&h. Glad I did. I love this thing. Tried the 12 core ES upgrade but got kernel panics and went back to 4 core.

If you can wait, then I would, but if money isn't the issue, go for it.

That sounds great, I really do miss desktops, Laptops are great but when it comes to horsepower it just can't do it on time.

Still surprised the packages with D700 are so expensive. I may just get a refurb (or used) one with d500.

Any reason you can't just go for a regular PC? Not the most elegant things, but they're far more expandable than even the classic Mac Pros. There are ways to emulate some of the quirks of OSX, like the dock, and if you do it right it could even become a Hackintosh.

I have zero faith in Apple expanding on the Mac Pro line in a sensible way... It just doesn't seem realistic to wait on them anymore unless you like smoke-stacks.

It's reasonable to believe that the Mac Pro will continue to be around for Semi Pro's like me.

I have the Apple ecosystem and the upcoming Mac OS enhancements proves a commitment to maintain this.

My Mac Pro 6,1 quad often reaches a processor threshold and I anticipate upgrading to a 12 core processor with the maximum memory and storage possible.

More likely when the newer Skylake processors are introduced would be an ideal time to add another system.

As I accumulate Mac processors, I would like to discover a way to share processor, memory, and storage from each to manage peak utilization periods. Someone must know how to do this?

My approach is to add on more resources as the need increases and availability of systems appear.

Having both, Windows 10 and Mac systems, and even Ubuntu, my preference is still the Mac OS because of cumulative reasons: the ease factor, my investment, the ecology, the compactness, the stealth quietness and on.

I'm ok being a Semi Pro user with multiple systems.

I wouldn't mind moving to pc if wdcc doesn't introduce nMP. I like OS X but I ain't going to wait next decade for another machine. 2010 cmp is still great.

Totally with you. I'm still typing on a MacPro 3,1 from 2008 refusing to buy another old Retina MBP 15" after mine died from liquid damage. I would have bought one if it was a newer model.

But no, Apple can sell whatever old hardware for ridiculous pricing and release iPhones, iPads and castrated MacBooks.

I wonder how the sales are on the nMP but they'll never reveal it.

I used to have a 2010 12core cMP with your flashed 780GTX, beast of a machine...but I was beginning to feel the lag of non-modern CPUs (compared to my 2014/2015 rMBPss), memory and SSDs (I know you can get PCIe SSDs but I ran out of space) and also the nVidia Web Driver glitches in Adobe apps under intense use, so got tired of it...and also the chassis was starting to get really old.

People need to start emailing Tim Cook and ask about the nMP. They do reply and even call back.
