This is a bugbear for me. Having to reduce the screen real estate when watching videos, to avoid cropping, rubs in the fact that I'm not taking advantage of the X's brilliant screen.

I don't care about the notch, but want a crop-free, full screen experience when watching most videos.

Do we think one of the proposed larger 2018 iPhone models will have the aspect ratio that'll allow full screen video of most resolutions utilised on YouTube etc?

It feels like we are back in the iPhone 3/4 days...
Maybe they'll market a fixed* aspect ratio for media in the upcoming iPhone

I usually use my 9.7 Inch iPad Pro for Movie and TV show viewing, but I do like to have my favorite TV shows on my iPhone, I have a 256gb 7+ and I tried the X vs a 7+, and hated the lose of screen area(did this in person obviously at a local Sams Club).

I'm sure the PLUS sized version will have the proper aspect ratio,
That would be very interesting. Just seeing that massive screen filled, edge to edge, with original aspect ratio for most content will sell the phone itself.
Yep, it is all about the screen being the proper aspect ratio. Maybe the X+!

The crop does not bother me too much, do my movie and entertainment on the 10.5 iPad Pro.

Oh yes :)
All my media consumption is done on my 12.9 iPad Pro.

I don't watch movies/TV shows myself (on either iPhone/iPad). Mainly for Youtube, on the go.

There are actually some videos on YouTube adjusted to iPhone X aspect ratio....makes you wish more were shot at 2436 x 1125... For eg.

So all you want is to stretch the video to fill up the screen regardless of maintaining aspect ratio? Maybe a third-party player app will do the trick?

I very seriously doubt they’ll change the aspect ratio, that would make no sense to be honest

The rumours point to another 5.8” iPhone, so it looks like 19.5:9 is sticking around

I’m really puzzled why they couldn’t go with a 18:9 display like the Galaxy S9 and LG Vwhatever (among other phones too), like if all of these manufacturers want to be weird, be consistently weird

No, I'd like typical OAR maintained, & the device to contain a screen resolution that matches it.

Did that YT vid I posted not retain its OAR? Maybe I linked the wrong one?

X on top, 7+ on bottom. X looks better and wider.

Most TV shows crop the sides anyway with black bars to the left and right, so the notch generally doesn't matter. However, wide aspect ratio content does suck and whenever possible I zoom out to avoid the notch. I've noticed apps getting better at this but there are a few still that don't give you the option except to view notched content.

I actually like viewing videos with the notch in fairness. Use it mainly for youtube/sport and i've noticed i use it more so will welcome the X plus.

Yeah I noticed this on the X I had.
Think the Plus sized models have better viewing but I do not watch to many videos anyways.
I do think the Plus would be the better way to go until they perfect the X.

Yeah but the X is cropped too. Not ideal, as I don't want any missing information. :D
