Have the new Mini on preorder and I already have the Apple Smart Cover for it. I’ve been looking on Amazon and Ebay for a Smart Cover compatible rear cover/case but I’ve had no luck. Lots of new 2019 Mini cases are showing up but I haven’t come across any that are Smart Cover compatible. There are a few Mini 4 covers available that are SC compatible but I don’t know if they’d fit correctly being that the volume keys have been changed on the new Mini (as well as the mic placement but that’s not a biggie for me). I would love to find one like the Khomo charcoal companion rear cover I have on my 2018 9.7” iPad. Anyone had any luck finding a compatible case? Thanks!

I was also looking and have now given up for the time being. The only company that seemed to do anything for the iPad mini 4 is Kwmobile. They have a selection for the iPad mini 4 including a clear silicone rear cover and it does work with the mini 4 Smart Cover, I tested it. I returned it in the end as I wanted a hard rear case not a flexible one.

I don’t have an answer for you, but will be interested in any answers/suggestions that others have, as I also have a Mini 5 on order. Although I have a Smart Cover & the now discontinued official rear cover for the Mini 4, I would like new replacements for my Mini 5, as the existing rear case (& Smart Cover) on my Mini 4 have seen better days.

Shame that Apple stopped selling the rear cover for Mini 4, although to be honest, the quality was not brilliant (corner on mine started to split/crack after 1 year, it almost seemed too tight a fit)

I too am in the market. I purchased a cheapo case off Amazon to tide me over. I figure there will be more options in a few weeks.

I get mad at Apple for not offering the folio! I bought 4-5 different case for my 10.5 and never found one as good as Apple's! I like the folio on my 11" but the plastic is not as nice at the leather and the edges are quite sharp!

The lack of a decent Apple folio for the new mini is putting me off from ordering it and I will stick with my 11".

Has anyone found any rear cases that are clear and smart cover compatible?

None. Looking at Amazon, only cases with non-removable covers are out now. And the one back shell case isn't compatible with a smart cover (!?). Very annoying.

Thanks, I hope they come out with some soon. In the meantime, I'll just have to get something cheap to make sure the back is covered.

You may consider doing what I did for my iPP 10.5. I bought a case that was the rubber/silicone back cover with the fold over front cover and I used a ruler and an xacto knife to cut off the front cover so that I could use the Apple Smart Keyboard. Those covers are pretty inexpensive so you’re not ruining something pricey by turning it to a back shell so you can use the Smart Cover.

Someone on another thread showed his Mini 5 in an Apple silicone cover for the Mini 4. He said that it fit except for the camera opening, which he used scissors to cut out a bit. If you’re all about the absolute perfect fit, that won’t do for you. I just bought a Smart Cover and silicone cover on eBay for less than $40 total, when I used the $10 coupon that popped up when I was looking at the items.
