Current standard iPad 9.7", with the bezels removed becomes 9.75" diagonally. The current iPad mini, with its 7.9" screen and if you include the bezels, measures 9.25" diagonally. So thats why, IMO, we aren't hearing rumours of an iPad Mini. The regular 9.7", will become mini once its updated to the rumoured form factor. I am guessing next year.

At $329, I don't think Apple will offer a thin-bezel iPad by next year.

Consumers in this segment are looking for low-cost. It's one of the reasons why Apple ditched iPad Air 2; they couldn't sell them at $499 or even $399.

Surveys show most people are using tablets at home for entertainment. This means they don't really care about the weight but they do want a large display. Hence the success of iPad 2017 and 2018.

For this segment, a 10.5" low-cost tablet with bezel makes more sense than a thin-bezel 9.7" device.

I did these measurements already and I'd love for it to be true but I'm also skeptical. 9.7" is the budget size. So, yeah, it may happen eventually but it will be a year, or more. The other reason is the keyboard cover may become too small for Apple's taste. If anything I see Apple consolidating around the current 10.5" size (or whatever the small-bezel pro ends up being) for interoperability of peripherals. Love to be wrong on this one!

Agreed its a year away. good point on the keyboard, though apple could make a full back and front case for the iPad, make it wider, and inset a place to store the pencil in the case with the extra width

I guess it's possible, but if the mini were to go bezel-less, I'd prefer they keep the 7.9" screen size and shrink the bezels down from there. The mini could benefit by going smaller than it currently is (lighter too is a good thing).
