Reasonable price for last gen. ultimate MBA 13.3?

I'm trying to sell my "ultimate" 13.3" Macbook Air on Craig's list and am wondering what you guys think are realistic expectations for price?

It's in pristine shape, has been in Invisible Shield since day 1. Cost around $2k. I'm trying to sell it including the Apple Superdrive for $1500 but so far nobody outside of Nigeria has responded.

If I can't sell it for this amount it'll be by far the fastest depreciation I've ever experienced with a Mac.

See what there going for on eBay. I wouldn't think to many people searching on craigslist will drop over a grand on a computer.

Air's depreciate the fastest of all the Macs IMO.

top of the line is 1600$ -50 for students and -100 bestbuy/apple giftcard -30 for lion


I would say be happy if you got $1000.

If you think you deserve $1500, would recommend not to buy a new mac again.

No one's biting because it's no longer "ultimate" and you're listing it for $100 less than the current Air which has a core i5.

I agree, a refurb is 1400$ with a full warranty and new battery and lion.

People who buy the 13" ultimate on day one are the same people buying the i7 ultimate. People on craigslist are cheap a$$es. Unless you sell on ebay or find a sucker you will not get 1500$

If you're willing to wait, you may get $1,300 on CL. It'd be equivalent selling it for about $1450 on eBay and risk buyer's remorse (eBay has a buyer favorable return policy).

Yeah, I'd say looking for $1200-1300 is reasonable. But you might have to settle for $1100-ish.

Anything with SSDs loses value fast, but especially so an Air.

I think the main problem is that the 2010 high end model included only 2GB RAM. So you spent an additional $100 on the $1599 price for 4GB. Add to that another $100 for a top of the line Core 2 Duo and you spent $1799.

The current high end model already includes 4GB RAM for $1599 which includes a vastly superior CPU and a backlit keyboard. So you already have to compete with a cheaper and more advanced model than your Ultimate. It would be a more level playing field if the 2010 and 2011 Ultimates each cost $1799 but the 2011 Ultimate is already $100 cheaper than your model since it already includes 4GB RAM.

I would imagine $1200 would get people interested.

I would never, ever, ever, ever do business on Craig's List. I've gotten scammed twice. Done over 1,000 transactions on eBay and never had any problems. Too dangerous to meet strangers face-to-face for cash-based transactions...and there is no feedback system on Craigslist, there is no backup system if things fail, there is no protection. No way.

I can't believe people are too lazy to open a PayPal account and pack items by hand and take them to the post office or UPS. You realize that you charge a shipping fee...and the transaction is 100% safe -- there is a feedback system on eBay so you know if the other side is reputable. eBay works with buyers and sellers in bad situations so nobody ends up victim of a scam.

To your answer, (I have the 2.13GHz/4GB/256GB model 13" too). I bought mine for $1799. I would say they are getting anywhere from $1150 - $1250 now, but considering you can get a 13" MacBook Pro with an i5 and Thunderbolt for that much or less. You would have trouble getting $1300 for that model now in any venue, unless the buyer is naive enough to think it's worth that much.

But, I would definitely sell it on eBay and not mess with Craigslist. There were two stories here last year about car robberies and stick-em-ups happening from people meeting Craigslist buyers....it's just too dangerous for my tastes.

EDIT: BTW, the two times I got scammed were not meeting them in person, but mailing money orders and never receiving the items. I was left without any way to contact the seller.

Plenty of positive dealings on CL once the deal is struck. But getting there can be a pain. Mac owners want too much usually. Buyers lowball.

If you go the CL route avoid the 'oh I can't get any more than this from my bank' line, tell them
Up front that you need cash. And buy a money pen.
