Rebooting iMac without ejecting drives from OWC ThunderBay IV?

I have 4 drives inside a OWC ThunderBay IV. My iMac locked up and I had to cut the power to it. Can this cause any issues with the external drives since they are not being properly ejected first? Is there something that should be done to minimize any damage to the drives when something like this happens?
