Coming from android, rebooting was as simple as clicking restart and it ran its course. But, iphone doesn't have this. It just has the shutdown option. Now, my question is, how long should one wait before starting it again after it shuts off? As soon as the screen goes black? 15 seconds? 30 seconds?

To hard reboot the Face ID iPhones you need to tap the up volume button followed by the down volume and then press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo. Touch ID iPhones hold down both the Home button and power button until you see the Apple logo.

As far as I'm aware iPhones don't have a restart option in the software.

Sometimes the shutting down takes a moment but as soon as it’s off you can boot it up again.

Forced restarts I’d reserve for troubleshooting frozen devices.

You can reboot the phone as soon as the screen goes black.

Can I ask, why are you needing to reboot it? Are you doing it often?

Thanks for all the replies.

I remember years ago hearing about waiting X seconds before starting back up a computer after it was off.

I used to restart my android phones every 3 or 4 days just out of habit. I guess old habits die hard lol. I guess with apple I could probably extend it to once a week.

I used to also clear out and close apps after every time I was done with them on android, but I've stopped doing that with apple. Like I say, old habits lol

I think, that was primarily because of HDDs, they need time to "spin down" when shut off. Also, those few seconds helped with allowing residual power to fully dissipate, ensuring RAM, etc fully clear. But even PSUs and similar power components have become far more efficient over the decades -- well, mostly.

Just like on a Mac, the iPhone is still doing shutdown processes for a few seconds after the screen goes black... then it's finally dead

You can create a shortcut via Assistive Touch, allowing a restart just by a single tap (well two taps).

I did this on my 7 Plus so I can restart quickly without having to shut down and manually pressing the power button. :)
