In attempting to move my itunes library from my pc to my mac (it will stay on an external hard drive the whole time) I copied the itl and xml files, but failed to realise that of course the drive path was not the same for both the windows and the mac.

Thus, i attempted various methods, using search and replace to edit the drive paths in the xml file, and deleting or corrupting the itunes library file (on the mac) or the itl file (on the pc). When deleted itunes merely starts with a blank library on both systems. When corrupted itunes starts with a blank library, renaming the corrupted library file.

I am easily able to rebuild all the files in my itunes library, but that will erase 2 years + of playlists, ratings and playcounts of my 12,000 songs. If there is no possible solution, obviously I will resort to the 24 hour process of merely adding the files in bulk into itunes. But I hope not to have to do this and would be very thankful for any help, for PC or for Mac of how to rebuild my library from the XML file, so that the drive-path will have successfully changed and I can move onwards from here with regards to itunes and ipod.

Thanks

Blank Playlists, but full library

I have had a similar experience. I moved my iTunes library to an external HD. I repointed using preferences. I have a full library of tunes however, all of my extensive playlists are blank.

I have not connected my iPod for fear that I will lose the playlists there. Is there any possible way to sync up what is on my iPod to what is in iTunes? I have iTunes 8.2

Thanks for any of your thoughts on the matter..

I've noted the XML and ITL files. They are in the old area. I've copied them to the new area but with no affect.
