I just purchased an old used Sony Handycam DCR-TRV830 Digital 8 500x Digital Zoom Video Camera will someone please recommend most current Software to upload these tapes?
I have iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)Sierra 10.12.6
Is it possible to download an OLD version of iMovie that accepts analog tapes even though I have current iMovie 10.1.7? I don't want to delete my current iMovie version.
I purchased two adapters that will allow me to connect i-link directly to my Thunderbolt port.

I have hundreds of these tapes I would love to show my kids and make DVDS for my folks. Any help greatly appreciated!!

1)Will this connection work?
Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter & a 9 pin/4-pin Bilingual Firewire 400 cable
2)Anyone heard of Vidbox for Mac? $69.99 Best Buy claims it will do the job??

Many thanks for response, trying to buy everything before my camera arrives Tuesday so I can get started!!

Have you tried iMovie for importing?
Once you have the "physical connection" worked out?

There is a "digital video" forum here at macrumors.
You might better pose your question there...
