Hey Guys,

For years I've been wanting a reasonable way to track expenses, specifically smart receipt scanning. I finally feel like the technology SHOULD be out there, but there are 1,000 apps that claim to do it - seemingly all of them have mixed reviews. All I want is an app that can reliably scan my receipts and pull a merchant, date, and total - preferably it will also auto group my receipts/expenses but I would be willing to do it manually. I just downloaded Expensify and it's been over an hour and the smart scan is still "processing" a receipt, plus I just read hidden on the website you only get 10 smart scans a month - or you have to pay. I would consider paying if it was reliable, but so far I'm unimpressed.

Anyone else have any experience with any of these apps? Would love to hear your input. Like I said, I would be willing to pay for a service that's reliable...I'm just having a hard time finding one.

Thanks,

Update on Expensify:

The smart scan did in fact word, but it took 3 hours. Not sure if it's worth the money.

I have been using OneReceipt mainly due to the email scan option which pulls receipts from your inbox. You can scan receipts using the camera as well, but like other services it takes time. So far from the several I've scanned it seems reliable. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onereceipt/id512999447?mt=8

I was a little unsure reading the description, can you scan a receipt and it will automatically retrieve the merchant, date, total etc? If so, how many "smart scans" do you get a month?

Thanks,

Nolan

That's correct. Taking a photo of the receipt will pull all that info for you. As far as I can tell the app is free without limitations.

Thanks so much! I've been using and so far no hint of fees and the app is in the top 3 gui of all the one's i've used.

I know Evernote will OCR any receipts you scan with it's app, but it won't automatically pull out information.
