Has anyone found a way to bring back the 'recent contacts' feature - the one where you swiped right (or could view when using app switcher) and could see the circles of the people you were most recently texting/calling? It doesn't look like an optional widget.

The ones you were able to view in App Switcher I am pretty sure they got rid of that. It used to be under Contacts and View in App Switcher, if that is what you are referring to

The one in the app switcher was removed with iOS 9 (sort of replace with proactive Siri feature relating to it). The one showing up with proactive Siri seems to have been removed with iOS 10 (sort of replaced with the favorites widget).

yes, that's the one that i think went in ios9, but you could get to the function with a swipe. now it looks like it's gone all together. shame - i used that all the time.

Now there's the favorites widget that could be used instead--not quite the same thing, but some similarities.

yes, i think you're right about it going in ios9... the favorites widget doesn't quite work as well for me personally. the recent contacts were really useful if you were engaged in a bout of texting or calling for a period of time, but they weren't a long-term favorite. shame - used it a lot.
