Recessed headphone socket on O2 iPhone?

Does anyone know if the O2 iPhones will have the resessed headphone sockets?

The iPod Touch doesn't, so they obviously realised their mistake, have they modified the iPhone?

Perhaps on a side note, how bad are the standard headphones? I like to hear my bass.

The iPhone 'phones will be recessed, and the reason for the touch is not because they realised their 'mistake', it's because you don't need to stop it playing to take an incoming call, which you do with the iPhone headphones.

As for sound quality, they're just as good as every other pair of Apple headphones you get.

I don't understand, why do they need to be recessed? How does this help the music stop when you take a call?

And if they are as good as every other pair of Apple headphones, thats not good news.

Because they're special headphones with a little button half-way up that you click when you want to take a call.

Either way, I like Apple headphones so wont have a problem with the recessed hole, if I wanna listen to HQ ch00nz that's why I have my Classic.

You are probably right, but to reduce manufacturing costs they will use the exact same factory lines.

I want headphones that go inside your ear to increase bass, but with the clicker. so will keep an eye out for ones designed for the iphone.

Schure (?) are about to release a high quality adapter as previewed on icali.tv head on over there and check it out

I use all my normal headphones with the iPhone either by using an adapter like hte Belkin, using a homemade adapter, or cutting the rubber ends of headphone plugs down so that they fit.

They all work. There is no 'functional' reason why its recessed. My Guess is thats the furthest out they could get the port while fitting it in the rounded aluminum case without the possibility of easier breaking.

Well I am going to buy a pair of Philips headphones I like and de solder the speakers, then solder them onto the apple cable, making an ideal solution that looks elegant!

You could also get a compatible splitter. Looks like Apple just revamped their accessories page, so it might be worth another look. More and more 3rd party stuff should be coming out each month.

I realise that these products offer a solution to the problem, but it isn't exactly elegant. You are left with multiple plugs and in the second case, a ridiculously long headphone lead!

I think a pair of headphones designed for the iPhone, with an inline mic would be good, but failing that, combining your earbuds of choice with the apple cable offers a cheap, simple solution.
