Remember Navizon? They were the ones who brought us the first GPS application on the iPhone. They just released their application on the AppStore.
It has all the features of the previous versions such as
- display your position on a map even in places where you wouldn't get your location otherwise
- the Buddy Finder to display all your friends on a map
- the Navizon alerts (where you can be notified by email when your parents get closer to home or when they leave work for example)
- the trail logging to keep track of all the places you go

But one of the interesting aspects of this new software is that if you have an iPhone 3G you can make money just by having Navizon running on it. They have a massive database of Wifi and Cellular towers assembled thanks to their community of 800,000 users, and the more people use it the better this database gets.
And they pay you for the data you contribute: the more you drive, the more Cellular and Wifi towers you will log and the more points you will earn. When you have enough points on your account, you get $10.
This is like earning miles on airlines only that instead of a free trip, you get cash in your Paypal account.

To register on Navizon, just click here.

Navizon Lite is free and they also have a Premium version with unlimited alerts and trail logging for $9.99. Both versions are on the AppStore

On my iPhone
So does this work when the iPhone is off or must it be always on while your driving? Also, since it cant run in the background, wouldn't it be a PITA when a call comes in ?

You have a chance to earn $10 after you pay $10 and spend the gas money to drive all around to rack up points. Eh, nah.

Gonna have to agree with this one. Doesn't make a whole lotta sense. And you would probably end up paying more in gas just to get that $10.

I would assume you'd use as you're driving to your destinations. Not just drive to use the program.

I see that but i mean you need 10,000 points to earn $10. Im not sure how many cell towers there are in a city but you would have to do a lot of driving just to get $10. I'd rather start with the $10 i have now then spend it and drive around until i make that up again

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, there's an app called Backgrounder that lets you run an app in the background. So you can have Navizon earn you money all the time while you do other things with your iPhone.

While keeping the GPS and WiFi on the same time... Hope you have a car charger!
