I have around 6 GB of unpartitioned space on my iBook's HD. It's from when I did a clean install of Tiger, and I thought I might get around to installing Ubuntu there. Now it's clear that I won't do that in the near future, and I was wondering if I could somehow make a mac partition out of it and use it for storage? Disk Utility seems to want to reformat everything in order to work, and I don't want to lose my main and secondary partitions.

Any ideas?

Yes, but it also wipes the entire disk. I was hoping to avoid that and maybe find something like the Windows app Partition Magic, that can rearrange partitions without deleting everything.

Thanks anyway for the reply!

There's a couple partition utils (look on http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/), but I don't compeltely trust them.

You are WELL advised to make a very good back up before attempting to use them (messing with the partition map on the fly.. yikes).

And if you go through the trouble to make a good back up, why not just erase, repartition, and reinstall from the back up?

Yeah, you're right. I'd have to back up everything anyways. It just bugs me that it's 6 GB - not that big of a deal, maybe not even worth the work, but annoying nonetheless.

Oh well, I'll have a look at it the next time I do a major backup anyways.

Thanks!
