Hi folks,

we're looking to improve the interface for playing audio files on our website and maybe video in the future. Currently they're just MP3 files and they open up with a bog-standard blank page and Quicktime or Windows Media player.

Has anyone had any experience with a better system. Ideally we're looking for a plug-in or similar. Can be free or not!

Cheers in advance.

Edit: as an example, something along these lines would be great: http://podcast.ft.com/

Thats a flash based player! The user interface is basically freely editable and works with audio, video, pictures, etc. And best of all, almost every computer connected to the internet has a flash player installed (even more than WMP or QT).

Its an Adobe product, used to be Macromedia.

Yes but I don't think the OP wants to build one from scratch, let alone buy the rather expensive flash software if they don't already have it.

there are pre-made flashbased media players available but I couldn't recommend any from personal experience.

I use WIMPY player - it does cost about $20 but I installed it on my site with ease, and it has editable skins (you can make your own with software included) and you can either let it do all the hard work for you, or it is able to read .xml files should you wish to incorporate this.

Take a look at it in action if you wish at my site

Yeah I came across the WIMPY player yesterday and I think it's in the frontrunning so far. Certainly seems to work pretty well on your site. :)

Butters> The JeroenWijering palyer looks good too.

I also found the DivX website but i think that might be overkill for MP3s?

Designing our own flash based one with Macromedia would be perfect, but we are looking for something less time-consuming - especially seeing as our designer just quit
