My current USB2 board (iogear) is causing random lockups especially on sleep. Need a recommendation for a new USB2 PCI board.

thanks

I saw the thread title and was going to recommend the one I bought for my G4 a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately it's an IOGear, probably the same one you have. And yes, I've experienced a freeze when waking from sleep, after I put this card in. It's only been a problem once though, which isn't too bad considering I put it to sleep all the time. I hope someone can recommend one that won't do this just in case it becomes a problem for me too.

Anyone using the Sonnet Tango 2 or the Other world computing boards? I'm anxious to fix the problem. It took 6 month to figure out the crashing I was experiencing. The G4 only crashed if a device was on and plugged into the USB 2 board.

I have a duoconnect card from adaptec. It locks up too if certain things are plugged into it when the powermac goes to sleep. A printer and a shuttle pro are fine if left plugged in. However, a 9-in-1 card reader or ipod dock will lock it up if left plugged in.
See if anything inparticular seems to cause it to freeze and be sure that you keep those devices unplugged when going to sleep. Should work fine.

What OS are you using?

I've been thinking of getting a similar card for my G4 (prob. Lacie) but have avoided it until now because of reported problems with sleep mode. But many of these problems have been reported to have been mostly resolved with Tiger — I'm still running Panther on my main system drive.

Anybody else here had any experience of this?

I picked up 2 Belkin USB 2.0 PCI cards from Staples for the office PMs.

I installed them and had sleep issues and then I downloaded the Kernal Debug Kit (for 10.3.9) from Apple's site. Installed it, restarted the PM G4 and plugged in my LaCie HD and presto! It slept well and woke up fine.

Scroll down and try this site from Apple's site

Cheers.

Running 10.4.2 Ordered the Sonnet card from buy.com. Got to get USB2 for my nano! I'll post results in a week or so.

I have Tiger 10.4.2 and still have sleep issues with the duoconnect. Haven't seen the above link to the Apple site.

Installed the Sonnet card and had kernal panics on startup. Sending the card back to Buy.com. Will post again when replacement arrives. Hey Apple, I'd buy a USB2 PCI card from you for $100 if it worked out of the box. With all the time I've spent trying two pci cards and crashes the IO gear card caused I'd gladly pay the Apple premium for one that worked right out of the box.

Installed the Sonnet card last night. No problems so far. Running and Epson scanner over the USB2 and an Epson printer over a 14 ft fire wire cable. Sleep worked well, even overnight!

Working fine for 4 days. I think its a keeper

I've been using the D-Link PCI card and haven't had any problems with it. It worked with 10.4.2 and so far with 10.4.3 (cross fingers).
