recommend Iphone app for traveling overseas, offline map,GPS,import placemark

anyone knows of any useful iphone app for traveling overseas with the following features:

- able to save a city's map and view it offline (to avoid costly data roaming)
- able to show your GPS location
- able to import pin locations from google maps or any other common mapping format

seems like the importing functions is the one I cant find.

Anyone knows of a map that can do all 3?

well i found this app

can anyone recommend a better app functionally than cartographer?
i dont really like cartographer's brownish design. they dont allow us to turn it off.

but it seems nobody else has an offer better than this :(

MotionX GPS

I like MotionX GPS for downloading maps and using them offline.

I can choose the level of detail and geographic area I want to download. Our family will be traveling in the Mediterranean next year -- I have already downloaded several city maps onto my iPhone so I can navigate without using any data.

I also use MotionX GPS for tracking when I run -- gives me great data on pace, distance, elevation, etc. I can then click to have the run data e:mailed to me and it even gives me a map of where I went.

Not sure how the download maps feature works on Cartographer -- could not find much detail on their website.

Hey - I'm the developer of The Cartographer (A Tasty Pixel, not "STORM" - that's a pirater). The offline map feature lets you download Open Street Map maps in bulk - the process is shown in this demo. (Side note: We'd love to provide offline Google Maps, but this is expressly forbidden by Google's terms).

Version 1.2 now lets you turn down/off the 'vintage' overlay on the map, although the rest of the design has proven very popular, so I don't have plans to do away with that =)

Cheers,
Michael

Try MapsWithMe

I use MapsWithMe http://mapswith.me/ that has all the features you require - works offline, uses GPS to determine your location and you can place pins on the maps. It has a free and paid versions, all the necessary features are in the paid one. And the maps look very nice and bright, not brownish.
