Thanks for the replies. It's a minefield and pries fluctuate all the time depending on which deals are available. I may wait until the iMac is updated as that will have a top-notch screen no doubt.
Are you waiting for the iMac 24" with either M2/M3 chip or are you thinking of a new iMac 27"? Because there is no indication whatsoever that a new iMac 27" will come any time soon or even at all.
I love and have always loved the iMac.... It started with a iMac G3 to a G5 to a Unibody and finally a Retina 5K. I've always had MBP's or MBA's in addition to the iMac but there is something special about it. So if you've decided to wait for a new iMac 24" then I completely understand it... iMac's are awesome.
But if you were looking for a 27" or larger screen I would go with a mini. I've been milling about feeling the need to replace my iMac 27"5K for a long long time (it's a late 2015) and as there was and is no indication of a new one since Apple wanted to get people on the Studio I asked a very close friend that works for Apple what would be a good replacement. He told me that he himself is transferring to a mini with a good monitor. So he helped me with deciding what mini and I helped him with deciding what monitor.
The most important thing is knowing what you NEED and what you would really LIKE and what you WANT. If money is absolutely no issue then get whatever you want. If money is kinda an issue but your profession or livelihood depends on the new machine get what you need combined with what you like BUT if this is just a machine that you use for off the clock usage then get what you need and this includes things like a screen size for "not great" eyesight or because you also watch netflix, hulu, amazon video, Apple TV etc etc on it or because you do some photography or video of your kids, grandkids, cats, dogs or pigs.
I for instance need my mac for our business that involves photography but since my iMac 2015 was doing pretty fine I knew that a Studio was completely overkill and even a mini M2 pro was not really needed. I got a mini with 16GB/512GB and it is AMAZING. After days and days and freaking more days of rechearch I got to the monitor I finally bought and it is wonderful. But since I do run my own business I really care about how much money we spend on all the things we use and so getting a Mac that is awesome but at a reasonable price is kinda important.
ps. (who still does ps?) since you were looking for a lower price monitor I bet a new iMac will go beyond a new mini with a great monitor.
