My ipod classic's earphones are coming apart and I need to get a new pair. I was wanting a new pair with better sound quality than what the ipod brings. I also dont want to spend more on earphones than what the ipod cost. So something thats sounds good all around and does not give in at lower frequencies (40hz).

-Thanks

You'll never get a decent pair of earbuds or headphones without paying a decent price.

That said, the best entry-level higher-end earbuds I've ever used is the Shure SE 110.

some Apple stores have them I think. They sound great, fit like a dream, and are solidly built.

I can say to AVOID the Apple in ear headphones based on what you said.

They actually sound really good, but they are very weak on the lower frequencies. That said, the frequencies that it does do sound pretty good, if not slightly flat.

If you are serious about sound quality get cans instead of buds. No buds on the market can compare to cans.

I got a pair of these Sony's after a friend recommended them to me. He had a pair of these as well as a pair of Bose earphones and like these better. I compared them both as well and the Bose did sound slightly better but the cost difference was astronomical. Earphones are almost expendable since I do so much traveling. No matter how hard I try to take care of them they are going to get yanked on and eventually break. So the trade off to me was great.

I have also been given a pair of Skullcandy earphones. While they are very inexpensive, they also don't sound too bad for the money.

Theoretically the more you spend the better they should sound. But both of these "cheap" options have worked well for me.

I actually just bought a new pair today.
I purchased the SkullCandy "Ink'd" and let me tell you, it was seriously the best $15 I ever spent in my life!
These things are amazing! I've gone through hell trying to find a decent set of ear phones that would actually stay in my ear and didnt hurt after a little while of use.
These earphones have awesome sound quality, they are comfortable, and best of all they are under $15. I hear sounds in songs I never knew where there before and the bass is insane! Its like a subwoofer in your head.
I would recommend them to anybody!

oh yea, I got them at Target, $14.99. Many colors to choose from.
Buy them! You wont regret it!

Edit: Just thought I should also add they cancel almost all outside noise. I wear them (under a helmet) while riding my motorcycle and I cant even hear the engine almost. Also your iPod can be on the lowest volume and still be heard perfectly with these earphones.
Im just so happy to finally have found a pair of headphones that are perfect in every way!
