Just picked up a refurbed 17" Macbook Pro from the Apple store online and now I need a nice backpack. Suggestions for something nice looking yet functional? (You know, kinda like the Macbook Pro)... :p
Thanks!

Mr. Gadget - like a number of people I finally had to purchase for business reasons and ordered my 17" from Amazon - had it about a week now and I continue to be very impressed. Apple is going to have to do something more than dump a Merom into the next one to incent me to sell and go with the Rev B.

As to the bags - you really need to figure out the protection / cost / style / size / features equation - many solutions out there. I found the BOOQ to be high on style but surprised as to how little protection their line provides, especially when you look at their price. Crumpler and Waterfield designs did not do much for me either. The cheaper bags can really let you down when you drop them and are counting on the protection. I finally purchased a Tom Bihn BrainCell #1 that has hard siding and carries your laptop in an internal foam sling - about the best shock protection you can find. I would look at the Trager Courier as the main bag to slip the BrainCell into. IMHO - if you can afford a $3,000 laptop you should not worry too much about $225 or so for the protection / features / comfort / etc of a higher end bag.

EDIT - if you can find the SwissArmy web series 2.0 (something like that) for a good price BUY IT - superb bag and quality. They are on a close out mode now and the 15" SwissArmy will accept the Tom Bihn BrainCell #1 that you new 17" MBP might live in :)

Awesome advice, thank you! I will opt for protection over beauty for this, uh, beauty...!
Found the SwissArmy bag for $139. Will this work: Maximum laptop size: 9.50"h x 13.70"w x 1.23"d

Mr. Gadget - my new 17" MBP resides in the BrainCell #1 and that fits nicely in my Swiss Army Web Series 2.0 (some name like that). The SwissArmy bag is for a 15" but fits the BrainCell nicely - so I know it works as I am now using it. The Trager bag is nice but I had the nearly new SwissArmy 15" and thought I'd try just for the hell of it - actually fit better than the Tom Bihn Empire Builder that was designed for the BrainCell.

So - I'd go for it - best combination I've seen and I've sadly seen many :-0

So, even though the inner sleeve says for 15" notebook, it will work with the 17" MBP? Or do I need a different sleeve?
I've got my finger on the "purchase button"....

OK - Got the Victorinox Swiss Army Web Series 2.0 from Amazon.com for $129 shipped free and no tax!
Thanks again! But, please let me know if the stock sleeve will work so I can get another or cancel. :)

Mr.Gadget - I took my bag out but can not find any model number on it. The Swiss Army brand CS2 suspension sleeve for the 15" will only hold a 13 1/2" or so wide laptop - but the sleeve itself is 14 1/2 " wide. The BrainCell that my 17" is in is 16" wide and fits in with no problem - I do not even have to unzip the expander feature (adds 2" in depth if you really need it). The outside dimension on my SwissArmy is 17 1/2" wide - that may be a good indicator.

It is a discontinued model and I am trying to find an exact pic of it for you - many look close but they are not exactly the same.

I'll post back if I find the exact model.

Sweet, thanks!

Mr. Gadget - post a link of the one you ordered (or a screen grab) and I'll compare it to mine. They are GREAT bags - so many different models out there.

The vertical BrainCell #1 is what you will need if you want to add even more protection - it is 17" x 11" external dimension and accomodates the MBP 17".

The setup with that backpack may be good enough so that you don't even need the BrainCell - let us know when it arrives.

I like the STM convertible. It can be used in both oversized manbag or backpack modes and looks fairly smart (in a very conventional way, mind). It has space for stuff other than the lappy + PSU without being too large.

I got a STM bag, they sweet for all laptops:p Go the STM's, good price.

Swiss Army Web Series 2.0 doesn't fit

Hey guys, I got my new backpack, the Webseries 2.0 from Swiss Army, and it doesn't fit :( The MBP sticks way out the top.
No biggie though, they are allowing a swap. I am going to go for a Brenthaven Pro 17SC which is a shoulder bag. My wife has a Brenthaven for her Macbook and it really fits nicely, like a glove, and is very well made.
Anyway, again, no biggie and I appreciate all the advice on the bags!
