As expected these white MagSafe cables get dirty quickly. I want to cover the cable with a sleeve that matches the aesthetic of the MacBook Pro, either grey or black. Does anyone have any recommendations? Will third party MagSafe cables in different colours exist?

Would this 4mm wide cable be a good fit?

You will have to look at the specs if the expanded diameter will fit over the end of the connector. Otherwise, it will be useless.

Or just buy the Apple braided MS3 cable

I wish i could think of something to make the cable stay on my desk when i have it unplugged. as soon as i unplug it and let go, it seems to fall to the floor faster than the speed of gravity. the old one was bad that way, but this new one has even less friction. I kind of miss the old yo-yo adapter from my iBook.

As an alternative or supplement, perhaps a fabric protector would make it stain resistant. Any possible harm?

Maybe something like these to stick on your desk, and route the cable through? I have a few to prevent from cables falling to the carpet. Inexpensive and easy to install and remove.

Hoe do you get the sleeve on the cable when it has plugs at both ends, does it stretch over the plug? Thanks.

Easy. Clip a binder clip to other cords or the desk and run all the cords through the springs.

Cable sleeves have stretch to them. You can push the USB-C connector side of the MagSafe cable through the sleeve.

I've done some pet sleeving on some builds of mine.

Yeah you can probably squeeze through the usb c side of it. Then I would put some black heatshrink to tighten up the 2 ends of the pet sleeving.

Won't do the heat shrink part because I would have too remove it cleanly if I ever want to sell the Mac with its original cable.

Sadly this Bettomshin sleeve is unusable. It was just delivered and the 3mm sleeve itself is thinner than the MagSafe cable and doesn't stretch open to allow me to push the USB-C side in. The sleeve has no stretch at all and is only useful for pushing a copper wire through it.

The solution was too use spiral cable wrap.

6mm is the perfect fit. They are cheap and you can get them in different colours. Once you fit them on the MagSafe cable there are no gaps and it looks like a solid cable.
