Recommendations For Audio Systems

Hi all.

I would like to pass my ATV output through to a mini HiFi system under my tv. Does anyone know of a mini system type setup that does this? I really want one with multiple HDMI inputs.

Basically a home cinema receiver type thing in a mini HiFi format.

is this just a waste of time? I assume I would be better off with just an AV receiver, to be honest, just checking my options.

Failing the mini HiFi option, can anyone recommend a good compact AC Receiver? I don't want x.1 sound, just stereo. Obviously I'm not going to reject a receiver that does 7.1 Dobly ( :) ), just that it is not a requirement for me. I only really want the minimal speakerage under my TV, to off load audio - this is just so I can use my ATV as a stereo without having the TV on.

I'd prefer speakers. I'd also prefer sub 500GBP (with the current fx rate, 500EUR), but would be happy to go higher for something good (not into B&O prices though).
 
I was searching google for a product Onkyo HTiB, I'm such an ass sometimes.

I now know HTiB is Home Theatre in a Box. Great start :)

Sounds like what I want, except for too many speakers, from the models I've seen, but I'll read up some more.

Any more suggestions?

The Onkyo HTX-22HD looks like the kind of thing I want, thanks for pointing me in this direction. And under half my price goal, cool.
 
That also looks pretty damn good. but Sony don't appear to want to sell it in Europe. Whilst import wouldn't be too bad then I need a step down transformer, and that starts to add up. Pretty disappointing.

Any other sound bar type speakers anyone can recommend?
 
Onkyo units seem to be very good. I'm waiting until the model with HDMI upconversion (everything you plug in will go out the HDMI output) drops to $300 or so. I saw it for $400 over the holidays. I just hate switching my TV input AND my A/V system input.

Any idea of the model number?
 
I would recommend the Sony HT-SS2300 5.1 home theater system, or the HT-SF2300 which has floor-standing speakers. The receiver is very compact, and has 3 HDMI inputs. Both of these will also accept lossless PCM HD audio from Blu-ray Disc players :cool:

Unfortunately they both have multiple speakers, I'm hoping to get something with three or less (ideally one soundbar type, or just two speakers).

Thank you very much for the suggestion though, it is much appreciated.
