Moving to a new house that has Cox gigabit internet available. I will need a new modem since my existing one will only do about 300. Have always used Arris Surfboard modems in the past. Is that still the best way to go or are there better options?

I used to use Harris modems with the Puma 6 chip with Comcast. Nothing but problems and poor performance. Switched to a Netgear CM600. Cheap, easy, huge performance bump. No idea if it’s compatible with Cox.

The cm600 doesn’t work with Cox’s gigabast. It’s only 24x8 and 32x8 is needed.

I plan to use my Eeros for WiFi. I usually hardwire any fixed locations like TVs, printers, and NAS devices.

Cox has two approved lists, one for business and one for residential. The CM8200 is the only 3.1 32x8 on the business list. I can only guess as to why the other ones are not approved for business plans, but it means something if that's the only modem that fits your needs and has been approved by Cox twice.

If you want to go bleeding edge, consider the S33 with its 2.5Gbit ethernet port. No guarantees however that Cox will ever activate or use the port. It's also not very useful unless Cox starts offering plans >1Gbps. One catch is that Gigablast in some areas may be passing something like 1.01 or 1.06Gbps, so you may get a tiny bit more IF there is over provisioning on Gigablast and IF the 2.5Gbps port is active and IF your router, switch, and Mac are all equipped with 2.5Gbit or faster NICs and IF the server you're then connected to has the ability to push that kind of bandwidth.

After 4 years of 20 down and 5 up internet speeds, I’m ecstatic to have anything over 100. Don’t think I will need anything over a gb for a few years. By then FTTH might be available.
