I have been looking to purchase an external hard drive for a few months now. Over the last few weeks I have been eyeing the "LaCie 250GB FireWire Hard Drive Design by F. A. Porsche - 300703U" It seems to have good reviews and for $125 shipped it seems to be a good price as well.

Has anyone else purchased this external hard drive from lacie?

(edit: would you recommend USB 2.0 or FireWire 400 for this unit?)

It's fracking awesome. I just got one last week. Get firewire of course because then you can use super duper to make a bootable back up.

So you own this same model? :)

hey, have a lacie, althoughni have the triple interface model, and can thoroughly recommend the company. Also, i also suggest that you get the firewire version, it'll be quicker and also you can boot from it if need be

I did not need proof, but thanks :) I'm going to place an order for this external hd as soon as buy.com sorts out my belkin 1500 va UPS issue as they mailed me a refurbished unit and I paid for a new one. Once I get the new unit in the mail I'll be ordering this external hd ;)

$125

Cheapest I could get one in Australia was $285 that's about $US 217

buy.com is $139.95 -$15 coupon $124.95 with free shipping

So the cheapest place to buy the external drive the Lacie one, is on Buy.com
is it a good site?> reliable?

Just to be a Devils Advocate... ive a 160 GB LaCie for 2 years now and have constantly had problems with it... It never actually fails, so i couldnt return it:mad:

It will overheat and shut itself off before i get a chance to Eject it... so after many times of doing this the Directory Structure gets all Screwy and that just causes tons of more problems... Ive wiped and reformatted the Drive MANY MANY times and just cant get it to work Right!!!!

Im just gonna build my own with a Segate Drive (WITH 5 year Warranty) and a regular enclosure!!! much safer route with better alternatives than LACIES DINKY WARRANTY:D :D

Yes,
Buy.com is a reliable company. They are the next amazon (don't count on them being as big, as amazon is huge with alexa as well, but they are somewhat big now.) There price went up to $140.95, just a buck more. Seems as if my coupon expired on the 3rd too so I have to await a new coupon before I order ;)
