My old Promise Pegasus2 unit is failing and it's time to upgrade. I may just get the latest Pegasus, and would be tempted by their internal R4i unit if they sold it without the drives... I'm out of the loop as to what good RAID options are available for the Mac these days, so any suggestions appreciated.

FYI the RAID is mainly for the long term storage of large audio and video libraries, actual work is done on various internal SSD's.

If you have other Mac's around might be time to look at a NAS, Qnap, Synology etc make it more useful than just connected to one box.

I've built my own NAS from an old Dell 2100 server I bought on eBay, running on TrueNAS Core.
