Soon I hope to be the proud owner of a 24" iMac, 2.4ghz and I am buying it with the stock standard 1x1gb ram to cut costs now i do plan on getting more ram and I just wanted some advice. My dad a total PC head recommends Kingston and OCZ but some of the places I called only had Apacer, I'm looking to get 2x2Gb SO-DIMM, pc2 5300 667Mhz ram and I wanted to know what brand works best on a mac, and if apacer is any good. I'd really appreciate it if I could get some comprehensive reviews on this.

I can recommend crucial, great website where you can choose exactly what you need, and great prices/service (at least in the UK where I am). I got my ram upgrades for both my macs from them

It may help to also know I'm based in Melbourne Australia...not sure if that makes any diff on brands but prices im sure it does.

I just purchased a new 24" iMac and upgraded with Corsair's ValueSelect ram through Newegg.com (only available in the states I think.) 4GB for $71.99 US.

I've been very pleased with it. No issues so far. It takes all of 3-5 minutes to do. Very easy.

Good luck!

I used crucial for my MB and it has worked perfectly so far. I would recommend them. However, I would say buy them from Newegg.com. The prices are much cheaper.

other world computing, you can buy samsung memory that is exactly the same as the stuff that apple puts into the machines.

i think its like 100 bucks, so you can probably save 25 by buying off name brands, which owc also offers.

ive also heard sketchy stories about crucial using shady practices to make you pay more for ram.. for instance, lets say you go to their little smart search, and put in 24 inch imac instead of 20 inch, crucial assumes that you have more money to spend since you bought a more expensive computer and quotes you higher prices even though the 20 inch uses the exact same ram.

i like owc, i've bought some ram from them in the past, genuine samsung sticks and a hard drive, and have had nothing but a good experience. i like that they are a very mac centric website, and don't try and swindle their customers.

I bought the el'cheapo Cosair-stickered memory at Microcenter for my 24", $49.99 per 2GB stick.

Newegg.com has the best US prices for Apple-specific RAM from Mushkin.
I don't believe Newegg ships internationally, but the customer comments
on their web page give Mushkin high ratings from many Apple owners:
