I can't seem to screen record while I'm mirroring via a lightning to HDMI projector. Is this not possible? Can the iPad pro mirror and record at the same time?

I'm giving a presentation that is connected to a projector and want to record my screen while giving it (I write on screen during presentation). I know there are work aroundu usinga Mac/PC (mirror to Mac, then record), but I only want to carry my iPad.

Is this possible with a third party app? Seems like a huge oversight. I used to do this with a surface all the time, and switched to iPad to make things simpler, but this would be a deal breaker for my use-case.

Unfortunately I think they have purposely done this for the same reason you can’t screen record when playing/streaming video content...

I did some more research- it's apparently because the way screen mirroring works on iOS is it "records the screen" and outputs it, and I guess it can't do both? Seems like DRM shouldn't be an issue... block HDMI or Screen recording for DRMed videos. Android and Windows can do both.

Does anyone know if the pro can do both? I basically can't use it to lecture if I can't record my lecture while presenting. And I really don't want to go back to a Surface.

It’s nothing to do with DRM. You can’t record your screen when playing video content from Plex either, for example. I think you’re right though, it is to do with the fact that outputting via HDMI is “the same” as playing video content from the system’s point of view?

Hello Heov, I'm exactly in the situation you describe above! did you find a way out of it?

No. It's still not possible. Even on an iPad pro.

My solution has been start a Zoom call, share screen, join call from computer/laptop in the room... or even my phone lol if there is no computer. basically phone and ipad both on zoom call. phone sees shared screen. phone outputs hdmi.

Works well since most projectors have usb c dongles and I use android with USBC. If there's lightning dongle, can do iphone too.
