If I want to record an acoustic guitar, is a Hi-Z mike with 1/4" inch plug like a Shure or AKG the best since I have a 1/4" inch apple jack converter cable to the 1/8" inch jack to my Power Mac, or should I use a piezo saddle pickup...or a combination?

For vocals, I just have my voice into a Hi-Z mike, and for electric guitar, I will use the 1/4" to 1/8" jack converter.

Thanks.

When I recorded my acoustic I did a combination of my piezo pickup placed in the soundhole, and micing the guitar with a SM-58 mic. Gives it a nice 12-string fullness. For vocals, just sing into a mic and tweak it later.

thanks for the tip...i am selling my yamaha ooo-sized acoustic and if i don't get to record with that, i will probably try the ibanez talman acoustic electric and see how that sounds

i may have to get a splitter then if i want to simultaneously mike the acoustic guitar

i have never heard of an inexpensive mike only solution to a steel stringed acoustic...neuman mikes and a multi hundred thousand dollar sound room would be nice but out of my reach

i used to drive 150 miles to a great studio that had just those attributes and it was a professional studio without the los angeles/san francisco/london studio prices

i think the digital revolution has helped things a lot, but those expensive studios all went digital and are still that much ahead of a home studio with a mac, some mikes, and software...but what i can do now (potentially) is better than what that studio could do then 25 years ago
