I have some old LP vinyl records that I want to add to my iTunes collection. I have tried using QuickPlayer 7 and it appears that a recording has taken place, but I cannot listen to it. Can anyone tell me how or where to look for instructions to move them from a turntable via USB to the iMAC?

Just wondering -- have you looked on YouTube to see if digital versions of your albums already exist?

If so, a simple matter to download the music that way.

First you need to make the audio signal from the turntable enter the computer, that can be tested by hearing it come out of the computer speakers. You need to make sure you have an audible audio signal entering into the computer first that can be recorded, and not just a wire connecting the two devices together that may not be passing the sound you want to record. You can check in the Sound section of System Preferences to make sure your input source is recognised and that the input volume is up. Next you need audio recording software, Audio Hijack, for example. Then simply play the vinyl and record it with the software.

Assuming that the OP doesn't want to buy anything, another way would be to ask around looking to borrow any kind of digital audio recorder: Tascam, Zoom, and the like. Then cable the stereo's output to the recorder's analog stereo inputs, and let the recorder handle the A-D conversion.

When you're done, pop out the SD card or connect the recorder via USB, and you'll have a WAV or MP3 audio file on your iMac. The advantage is that you don't have to fuss with any software in the transfer chain.

I used this technique for digitizing dozens of cassette tapes, and it worked perfectly. Later, I edited with an audio editor (many choices there, as others have said).

This is hardly the only technique, as is obvious from the other postings.
