Ok, so I will be getting an iMac in the coming months and I want to capture TV shows from my TV. Then I want to put them into iMovie or FCE and edit them. Lastly, I will be putting them on YouTube. What do I need to accomplish this? I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH TV ON MY MAC, JUST CAPTURE IT THEN EDIT IT. How do I do this?

Personally, I'd use either a PVR or DVD recorder, then transfer it to the Mac (either via dvd disc or network). Dump the DVD into MPEG2 and edit using iMovie08.

If iMovie08 doesn't accept DVD MPEG2 files, then it will need to be transcoded first.

Buy a TV tuner from Elgato (It comes with their EYETV Software)

Record the TV, Export it to iMovie.

Edit it in iMove and then upload it directly to youtube. (iMovie '08 has this option)

Uploading TV shows to YouTube is a violation of their copyright rules. Do it and you risk getting banned.
