I accidentally deleted all my Messages with my daughter. This is not the end of the world, but I am wondering if there is any way to recover them? I do have an iTunes backup, but since I'm not missing critical data or bricked, I'd rather avoid using it since it's a week or so old and risk losing other newer data.

Is there a way that she can push all the messages back to me? I do have iCloud marked as On in settings on my phone, but for some reason when I tried going to iCloud on a web browser but the Messages app isn't showing there, even though it is On in settings. And it shows that 2.5/5 gb of my "free" iCloud information is all in Messages. How come I can't get to them?

I have an 8+ running 12.1.

I don’t think there is a way without restoring your backup. I suppose there might be a third party app that could extract them. But even then I don’t know if they will be able to restore back to your phone, it might just output as a text file.

Tbh, it sounds like you’re not too bothered because you don’t think it’s worthwhile restoring a week old backup so I would just forget about them and move on. It’s probably more agro than it’s worth.

Somebody else might be able to jump in and correct me though.

Well there are other messages from this weekend that I’d like back if possible. If there is a chance I can get those in addition to the backup I’d like to do that. Otherwise I will restore tomorrow.

Just checking for any alternatives since iCloud shows such a large backup for messages.

Okay. So my iCloud for messages is turned Off on my iPad and the message thread is still there. How can I get those messages to sync to the cloud so they will show up back on my phone? Do I just turn it to On for the iPad?

There is a possibility yes. I would back it up to iTunes first, this way your messages will be backed up if it doesn't work. Then I would send a few messages from the iPad to her to make sure that is the latest action in the message conversation. Then turn on Messages in iCloud on the iPad (at this time messages will be removed from you iPads iCloud backup). And then just let everything sit on wifi plugged in overnight and see what happens. You can revert back to that original iTunes back up if things don't go as planned.
