Hi,

So I think I've severely messed up. My Dad's computer wasn't booting and kept shutting off. I had to change the Macintosh HD so that I could reinstall an OS. I realise now though, that all of Dad's files have been lost due to this.

Is there any way of recovering this data?

Thanks for any help!

Let's get a few things straight.

You said you "changed" the internal drive?
What do you mean?
Did you physically remove it, and put another one in?
If so, do you still have the old drive?

If that's the case, you can buy a USB3/SATA docking station, put the old drive into it, and connect it to the iMac. If it mounts on the desktop, you can recover data from it.

Or... did you do something else?

[doublepost=1559290999][/doublepost]I reformatted the hard drive to journaled so that I could reinstall the software. Since then the computer has been working fine. I've also managed to recover all the files since then so it all seems to be running smoothly now... Touch wood.
