I have Big Sur installed on an external drive.

Is it possible to Boot into Recovery on that external drive.

I need to test some software that require changes made in terminal from the recovery portion.

thanks for the help.

Have you already tried powering on the Mac while holding CMD R, to see if it boots from the Recovery HD?

Thanks for the help.

I boot into Big sur on and External drive.
I restart; hold down Cmd and R.

I believe it boots into the Recovery volume on the internal HD;
reason I think that is because when I ask it to reinstall OSX it comes up
asking to reinstall Mojave.

thanks again. I might need to clone my internal drive to Big sure;
Install the Software; runs my tests and configure; then clone to my external HD.

Then re clone the internal drive to Mojave.
