Recovery Partition

I have successfully installed my Samsung 840 SSD drive. Due to the fact that I only have ML bootable version on SD card - which I couldn't use at the time I had to go with internet recovery. As a result the previous version (Snow Leopard I think) has been installed. Now after that I installed mac os driver for the card reader and continue with the installation of Mountain Lion.

I have now recovery partition on the SSD. My question therefore is - what system will be installed using the recovery partition will it be Mountain Lion or the previous system ?

How can I check it without re-running installation and if it's an old version how can I change it to Mountain Lion ?

when you hold option as the device is booting it will show you all volumes and usually it will say something like recovery - 10.8.0 beside one in which case that is the 10.8.0 recovery version

Click the Apple logo at the top left then click About this Mac.

The screen will look like this. If it says 10.7.x you are on Lion. If it says 10.8.x you are on Mountain Lion.

It sounds like your machine came with Lion and your Internet recovery reinstalled Lion. Did you at some point buy Mountain Lion from the App Store? If you did, just open the App Store app and look in your purchases list and re download Mountain Lion and install it.

Whatever you install it will create a recovery partition for that version and a reinstall will get you that same version. So if you have Mountain Lion running now, you will have a Mountain Lion recovery partition, and a simple command-r boot and reinstall will get you Mountain Lion.

However, if you do Internet recovery by a option-command-r boot it will go back to whatever OS the machine chipped with if that was Lion or better.

That is why I am trying to understand what year your machine is and what sequence you followed to get where you are.... and what OS version you are on now, as the answers to these questions will affect what a recovery reinstall gets you.

If you are on Mountain Lion now and do a command-r to recovery and reinstall you will get Mountain Lion.
