I wonder if that could ever happen to The Verge. I believe they've decided to turn off article comments and any criticism of content is effectively removed. It seems as though Nilay Patel believes any problems with the site are due to users not himself or anyone else that writes for the site. The quality of content on that site has gone downhill to the point of the site resembling a combination of Buzzfeed/Gizmodo.It means that reddit, which is one of the top 15 most visited sites on the internet, is now in full revolt by its users and moderators, who have effective shut down the majority of the site, and its users are now abandoning the site in a mass exodus and starting over again at competitor sites like voat.co

But why turn them off at all other than Nilay Patel can't handle any criticism? Some of the comments are due to people not liking the direction the site is going. I think they had 6+ articles on Apple Music and maybe 2 of them were actually worthwhile. I don't care how Verge writers lived with Beats 1 for 24 hours.Nah, people have/will just leave The Verge. And saying that, it has gone downhill for many years now. They didn't turn off comments on everything, just some things.

I have been on reddit once or twice in an attempt to see what it's all about. I didn't really see anything of redeeming quality on that site. But maybe I missed it.
