Lately I find my Mac getting super hot when I'm using Safari to read Reddit. That never used to happen. I'm running all the latest OS's and Safari versions, on a MacBook Air M2.

Reddit has my CPU nailed to 100%. Every time.

Anything I can do to stop this?

Also consider trying these browsers:
- duckduckgo
- brave
- icab
- orion

If any of them work better than Safari -- that is, don't "choke up" -- use that for Reddit instead.

firefox doesn't have the problem but I made safari my main browser because of a better integration in the OS (apple's key manager shared with my iphone). Avoiding to open reddit is hard, you do a search and may need to open a reddit page, I don't want to open a new browser every time.

My idea is to use "the browser that works", particularly for important tasks. For example, I find that Edge (or Chrome) sometimes works better than Safari for sites that require a secure login. Just my experience.
I also found that opening another browser for a particular purpose is not a "new browser every time", but is only new the first time. After that, it is part of my purposeful plan for browser use. My Mac browser use often does revolve around Safari, but I occasionally make "side-trips" with other browsers, because I know when those are necessary, at least in my own experience.

omg same here. i thought it was just me reddit literally turns my macbook into a space heater if i’m using safari no idea why. doesn’t seem to happen in chrome though, which is weird. i wonder if it’s the redesign or some script running non-stop in the background? anyone figure out what’s actually causing it?

Same with me. I thought it's because of my M1 8GB MBA. My Mac gets hot and from time to time the site is sluggish and slow.
That being said, you have MacRumors. Delete reddit now and today. I deleted reddit. No regrets. MacRumors is the best and one of the reminders of why the internet forums were great.

Imagine if MacRumors moved to reddit. I'd be really disappointed & all the Apple News on reddit are from MacRumors anyway… Sometimes with hundreds of comments and upvotes. Why on Earth couldn't we discuss things on here? I don't know.
