redesign of the mac book pro in the future?

I have never owned a mac before, but I am developing an itch and I feel it would be in my best interest to get one (thanks dad in advance hahaha).

Anyways, I'm curious if the Mac Book Pro is going to see a redesign anytime soon. I want to get one but if they are going update it with new hardware or software I'd like to wait. I had trouble finding information on this so any help would be great!

Also, anybody who has one, is it worth it to spend the money vs. a windows laptop?

I hereby predict that the entire Mac line will be updated sometime in the future.

Buy it now. Probably won't see a refresh until late summer. I have a 15" c2d, and I am quite happy with it. Current design is beautiful, can't wait to see what comes next, but I'll continue to be happy with this perfectly functional system no matter what is introduced.

Clean it and take care of it, and you can sell it when a newer model comes out. Sure you won't get ALL of your cash back, but you'll get a good portion back I'd say, and enough to justify it's use.

Anyone have any luck with this? This is my first mac, so please don't take what I say with any weight.

Well it really depends on your definition of "good portion".

For instance you'd be lucky if you even see 1/3 of what you paid on your 1st generation $2499 2.0ghz Macbook Pro if you sell it today, about 13 months after its launch.

Don't be deluded, Intel Macs devalue as fast as PCs, in fact even more so since they only come in the high end, and next-to-high end chip configuration. Everyone who uses a PC knows how hard prices for these will drop the moment something new shows up. A mid range chip at say 2.0ghz for instance may cost Dell $300. To get that extra ounce of juice on the other hand Apple pays more than twice for 0.33ghz to get the top speced chips for the Macbook Pros. To what end will that premium go in 4 months time? Down the toilet bowl of course! Maybe some into Intel's pocket too! And more to Apple when you get psyched to go on another upgrade spree!

Yes - inside information suggests within the next 6 months 3 new models will be revealed including an all new 10" MBP with multitouch. LCD screens, quad core processing, and 4GB RAM will be standard (of course), HD-DVD (not bluray) drives and expandable flash memory for quick boot times will be optional. Also, reports confirm that the iPhone will integrate (full-time sync) with these new MBPs so that home directories can be accessed and mirrored on each. This means that if your MBP is asleep in your bag, you can still access and manipulate its data on the iPhone.

I sold my C2D MBP as i had another computer to use anyway and i intend to buy again when Apple upgrade the graphic card in the MBP because it has had the same graphic card for a year (they were launched in February 06 and started shipping in early March 06) and i am not going to invest any money in one because of that right now. This maybe not a concern for some people though.

Also Leopard should be out in the next few months and iLife 07. These will come bundled free with your MBP.

Maybe you could wait and see what happens during MacWorld07 if you can wait for a bit.

I have a MBP and it's totally worth it over getting a Windows laptop. It's sleek, fast and efficient. I love it to death. Mac OSX is totally better and less buggy than the new Vista. I have some friends that have Vista and hate it because it's so bugged out. I don't think there will be a total redesign for a while. If you need a new comp now then get it. If you can wait a few months than do that.. I suggest waiting at least until Leopard is released.

wow you guys are incredible thanks so much for the information so quickly!

i have a lap top now and i use it mainly for taking around campus(im a college student) but its almost 2 and a half years old and its getting pretty beat up. i do take care of it though but moving from class to class every hour wears it down.

yea, seems the hardware specs are good for me right now, i think i might just wait till Leopard comes out and get it then.


side note because it was brought it up:
WINDOWS VISTA is not worth the buy, its seriously just windows XP with a new front end. ive been using it since mid january and compared to xp i cant notice much of a difference. They tried to make it have graphics enhancements as a mac does. The only other thing they did was add security, but at the same time introduce more features besides transparency around windows haha. not to mention the endless bugggs
