Redsn0w .0.8 + Winterboard not working on 3Gs?

So I jailbroke earlier with redsn0w, and right after getting all the latest updates from cydia, I decided to install winterboard...well it ask me to reboot my phone but it got stuck on the apple logo and after 5 minutes it will just turned off.

Anybody else having the same problem. I just did a full restore but I think I would go with the other jailbrake way if redsn0w is having problems with Winterboard...I really really wanted to trust the dev team :(

I installed winterboard and it rebooted the phone and loaded up fine but the was no winterboard icon :(

everything is working fine but for some reason the icon wont show up :(

HELP US PLEASE!
 
I installed a theme earlier and it put my phone into safe mode and no amount of rebooting got rid of it ! so did full restore and set up as a new device then jailbroke with redsnow and installed cydia . then i installed the latest mobilesubstrate and it went berserk and then said restarting but after ten minutes it still said it
so i'm restoring again now and might leave winterboard off as i don't think its totally ready !

try installing it again !
i just installed it and it worked first time !
hop it don't go to safe mode again !

whenever i go to install it on cydia it says disk space using: 0.0

and then i install it reboot and winterboard seems to be installed because my icons have no text under them and my homescreen has my lockscreens background...where is this winterboard icon wtf
 
I wasn't able to get it working with redsn0w. No problems at all with purplera1n.

Perhaps you should restore and go that route.
 
Frustrating this Redsn0w & Winterboard thing this time around. Freezing up and not being able to locate the Winterboard, after several reboots. Something just ain't right after all these different ways to JB, *my head is still spinning* like a bad sequel to "the Exorcist XIII" I'm giving it more time for JB...:eek::eek::eek:

isn't purple rain inferior to dev teams jailbreak? I heard it was quite buggy...everything about this jb works fine but the winterboard...ehhh

Yeah don't worry about following my advice. I mean it works and all, but it's not Dev Team...

It's really not. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. The respring is a little different than it used to be (don't know if redsn0w is the same) but everything works as it should.
 
I can't imagine why it would matter but I JB using purplera1n and then I installed mobile substrate and winterboard using SSH and it works fine.

I installed MS first, rebooted, then installed winterboard and then rebooted. It works fine.

This may be moot point now that Cydia has upgrades to MS and WB and I think redsn0w installed the MS automatically.

I really doubt there is a difference between the two JBs-but maybe redsn0w is the issue?

I have to say that purplera1n was the fastest and easiest method I ever used to JB and been doing it since my 1G iPod touch,

i used redsn0w took me like 5 minutes to actualy jailbreak and it didnt even "restore" my 3GS it just uploaded the files and said done. note that i had previously downloaded the 3GS 3.0 firmware on a previous date

oK so i now have jailbroken with purplerain and cydia is there but i still cant get winterboard working, it wont even load in cydia now...i can't even install the package

Yeah purplera1n takes like 45 seconds, no joke.

To the poster (Masterchief) looking to install winterboard and mobilesubstrate, have you tried SSH these to your phone. Not difficult.

I think I figured out why it wasn't showing up. I had been restoring my phone from a backup that came from 2.2.1 and I had the winterboard icon in a folder from catagories...when I upgraded to 3.0 i lost all the things that were in catagories, winterboard wasnt showing up because it was seeing it in the phantom catagories file that was no longer there...if that makes sense...lol
 
I made sure to upgrade Cydia's essential updates only, and then I proceeded to download the newest version of Mobile Substrate via Cydia. Once that was successful I downloaded Winterboard and all worked smoothly. I've read that it is necessary to do the updates/downloads in that order.

BTW, I used redsn0w on my 3GS to JB.

That actually makes TONS of sense and I guess I didn't experience it because I didn't restore a back-up I just set it up as a new phone.

Funny, all that stress for something that really wasn't a technical issue at all :)
