Successfully applied redsn0w, selecting "new version iphone". Everything went well, but on completion is stuck in Recovery Mode (USB Cable pointing to Itunes). Just in case, tried it again, without selecting "new version". This time, just blank screen after running, and had to restore again.

Any ideas why (latest version) redsn0w is getting stuck at Recovery?

You have a tethered jailbreak.

There is a thread here about it, you have to run Redsn0w again to restart the phone.

Read about your tethered jailbreak here.

DUH! Thanks guys! I KNEW it was tethered, but didn't realize I needed to do it the FIRST TIME! Don't know why the redsn0w program doesn't emphasize this.

Neither blackra1n nor redsn0w makes that as clear as they ought. Maybe someone ought to suggest it to Musclenerd.
