i got an iphone off ebay, locked to orange, new but already activated.
Model MC131B
Baseband 05.11.07

Heres the problem, jailbroke with blackra1n, no problem, installed apps, wifi worked, everything sweet.
Used sn0w to unlock and put simcard in, it displayed O2-UK but had no bars so calls couldnt be made, did some googling around and it suggested i reset network settings, it "seemed" to work, i got a bar, but then it went to "No Service" after 10secs, and i had nothing but probs since.
Spent a long long time trying different stuff and still getting no joy, after 1 restart blackra1n didnt boot the phone back up :( so kept trying diff boot methods like holding both buttons, releasing diff times etc, after some tryin 10x it booted up, so i put the T-Mobile sim in (which is the 1 needed to be used in the phone) and again joy, bars and T-Mobile written there, but it was short lived, no ability to make calls etc, tried the reset network thing again and couldnt get blackra1n to boot again, tried it 20 or 30x.

So (sorry to ramble) to my point about redsn0w, downloaded latest version 0.9.4, loaded the right ipsw and let it run its course, saw the running pineapple, it froze at 50%, restarted it (tutorials said just try again cos it happens regularly), after 3 or 4 attempts it worked, but after the rebooting message it simply rebooted back to showing me the usb plug pointing at the itunes logo

Anyway i tried running redsn0w a few more times with the same result every time.
I tried blackra1n again with no joy.

Can anyone help?

ps. the shsh for 3.1.2 is not stored on cydia so cant restore with PwnageTool, i did get cydia to do the shsh for 3.1.3 if this helps, although i really wanna stay with 312 if i can for now, cos god knows when geohot will release the new hack, it could be months away!

You didn't mention if this either a tethered or untethered JB. Either way I used redsn0w 0.9.3 to perform my JB I however did not unlock. I have had zero issues with my JB, knock on wood. Thelatinist posted a thread JB selection made easy that should have all the info you need.

Here it is :

Yes its a tethered jailbreak, or at least it was until blackra1n started getting stuck!!!

At this point I don't know what to tell you. You can't restore without losing your ability to jailbreak, but if you can't get it to boot up again that may be all you can do. If I were you, I would try iRecovery, which might be able to kick you out of your boot loop. Otherwise, a restore to 3.1.3 may be your only option.

From my experience when the Network provider's name is showed it means unlocking was successful, the fact is not showing any receptions could point to a (UK) blacklisted handset which is highly possible especially if you've purchased from ebay.

Thanks for suggesting iRecovery, but sadly this didnt work (a bit more digging it seems the 3.1.2 firmware wont allow it).

iRecovery works fine with 3.1.2 phones stuck in recovery mode. I've used it myself. Saying it "didn't work" doesn't tell us much. Did you get an error message? What was it? If not, what did it do? You're not really working with us...

It did nothing, I loaded it in command prompt, typed irecover.exe -s
typed in the following command
setenv auto-boot true
saveenv
fsboot

Nothing happened, the phone didnt change, typed reboot and the phone did reboot back to showing me the recovery mode itunes logo, i have included a screenshot of irecovery window if it helps.

1 thing also, i tried iReb using the "fix recovery mode loop" and the phone reboots straight back to recovery mode itunes logo, clicked it 10x in a row and still nothing!!!!

I thought you wanted us to help you out. Apparently I was mistaken and all you wanted to do was complain. You should definitely restore to 3.1.3, and then you will really have something to complain about.

I didnt complain!!!!

And I have done the official update, it was the only way to sort it, its only a matter of time before they release the latest jailbreak!!!
