i can't get redsn0w to work (OSX version & current version).

i get to the part where it goes thru the instructions to put the iphone into DFU mode (or whatever).

i press the relevant buttons at the appropriate times, and it appears to start doing something, but then sits and waits at "waiting for reboot".

nothing happens after that. i know the iphone is in DFU mode as when you start itunes it tells you.

i've tried this 3 times now and it keeps stopping at the same point.

any ideas ?

Solution 1: at that point, pull out the usb cable and then plug it back in

Solution 2: DFU back to 3.0 clean restore, don't activate, close iTunes, and run RedSn0w straight away

it already is a clean 3.0 as i restored just before trying redsn0w (although i did activate it as part of the restore)

i'll try solution 1 first

I had that same problem and it's because the mac I was using is old (it's PPC, not intel). That's a known issue. Is your computer old-ish? I eventually had to jailbreak on a Windows machine to get it to work.

ok jailbreak succesfull.

now tried ultrasn0w, added the source installed ultrasn0w.
rebooted the iphone with an orange sim card, but get "no service".

do i need to be doing something else ?

Well, since my specialist subject is "the blooming obvious", is it possible that there is no Orange service where you are?

Does that SIM work in another phone with no problems?

Does your O2 SIM still work?

Yes there is orange coverage (much stronger than o2).

Sim works fine.

I've seen quite a lot of reports of "no service" after ultrasn0w on google

Sorry, I'm stumped. Only thing I can suggest is do the whole thing again, which I have read works for some problems, ie:

- DFU your phone back to clean 3.0
- jailbreak again with RedSn0w
- unlock again with UltraSn0w

Good luck, sorry I couldn't help but please keep us posted
