I don't have a mac, and due to me screwing up an APP I had to do a Restore, so I'm on apples official 3.1 for my 3g. Can I use the Custom IPSW to do a new jailbreak on my phone with Redsn0w 8 or do I need to wait for a redsn0w to reliably do it safely?

You can restore to a custom 3.1 that has already been pwned.
Theres a few floating around the net.
Place your phone into DFU and then just browse for the custom ipsw to restore to by pressing shift at the same time as clicking on the restore button You may get an error message at the end of the process, but you should be able to just reboot into a JB 3.1.
Your baseband will not have changed from the official 3.1 so is at the present time unlockable.
Also you may lose your carrier logo and carrier name in network settings - but so far that just seems to be a cosmetic issue.
Edit: You won't be using redsn0w at any point during the process - a custom ipsw is pre-jailbroken.

Don't you think that if the GS were jailbreakable that info would be all over the net, and there would be at least six threads about it on here.
