Reducing Vista size

I have just installed Vista on my MacBook Pro and it comes in at 11GB! How can it be that big?

Anyway, is there a way of reducing the size?

I know under OSX you can use something like Monolingual and XSlimmer. Can anything be done to make Vista a sensible size?

As far as I know, when you install vista, it puts absolutely everything on the computer but only activates features you want. If you need to activate additional items like IIS or what have you, it will not need to ask you for the installation DVD to make the addition or changes.

If you know 100% that you will never use certain components, you can use a tool calle Vlite to make a custom install DVD and trim it down in size.

Keep in mind that part of your 11 meg will be things like the system restore and swap file so its probably not all Vista.

You can go through Add/Remove programs and uninstall what you don't need (all the bloatware).

Have you used vista before? There is no Add/Remove programs. There is a "programs and features" which allow you to add/remove 3rd party software OR you can enable/disable windows features. You cannot uninstall or remove from the hard drive the windows features you do not want. If you want to do that, you must use a software such as Vlite, make a new ISO of the Vista install DVD and do the install using that. It will then be missing the features you dont want installed.
