Hi, I gave my old macbook pro (13" - 2012) to my sister and she now wants to reformat it so she can give it to my niece. Since this is her first mac, she asked me how to reformat and the answer I gave her is to make a USB bootable drive of the OS first. Is this still the case? (Sorry if it feels like a dumb question! :D) Last time I reformatted was maybe 3 years ago and I just used the old USB I had with the Snow leopard (I think) before I gave her the laptop. It's been since updated to Catalina.

I'm googling how to reformat and in this website: https://www.lifewire.com/reformat-macbook-pro-4587318 - there's no mentions of a bootable drive, instead it just says that it will automatically download the latest OS.

In the Utilities app, it's asking if I should Reinstall macOS with a new copy or Disk Utility for repair/erase a disk. Is it recommended to erase first then install a new copy?

Thanks in advance!
