I just did a reinstall of the OS to get rid of the excess language files and now when I turn down my brightness, I can see what I think are my the screen's refresh lines. Is this normal (I didn't notice them before I did the reinstall) or is there a way to fix it?

I have the same set up as you do, i just bought mine an hour ago and started reinstalling osx and i can see the refresh lines. Same problem, are yours still showing up after osx was installed?

I have no previous knowledge of this and I'm taking a long shot but since you said it happen after a format maybe it's drivers? Did ya get the latest ones?

LCDs don't work the same way as CRT monitors, so what you're seeing aren't the typical 'scan lines' or visible refreshing of the monitor's image, however if there is graphical weirdness happening on the screen, I'd agree with what was said above in saying that something is probably wrong with your graphics drivers.
